Fabian Villarroel and Frank Santeiro participated in this year’s meeting between regional customs administrations and the private sector at the annual COMALEP meeting, which was held in Punta Cana Dominican Republic. This was the first fully in-person COMALEP since the start of the COVID -19 epidemic. Fabian moderated a panel on CHALLENGES AND INITIATIVES FOR THE INCLUSION OF MICRO AND SMALL ENTERPRISES IN INTERNATIONAL TRADE.
Fabian and Frank had the opportunity of meeting with Dominican Republic Customs Director Sanz Lovaton to discuss current issues.
During the COMALEP meeting, Ian Saunders, the U.S.’s candidate for Secretary General of the WCO, asked to meet with the members of the Regional Private Sector Consultative Group (RPSCG), which provides comments and recommendations to the WCO. CLADEC is a member of the RPSCG and Frank Santeiro and Fabian Villarroel participated in the meeting. The reunion lasted approximately 45 minutes and Mr. Saunders stated that if elected he intends to work very closely with the private sector. Mr. Saunders was elected Secretary General of the WCO in June.
“Today (June 24, 2023), the World Customs Organization (WCO) announced the election of Ian Saunders as its next Secretary General. As Secretary General, Saunders will lead the only intergovernmental body whose mission is to enhance the effectiveness of customs administrations worldwide.”

Este fue el primer COMALEP totalmente presencial desde el inicio de la epidemia de COVID -19. Fabián moderó un panel sobre DESAFÍOS E INICIATIVAS PARA LA INCLUSIÓN DE LAS MICRO Y PEQUEÑAS EMPRESAS EN EL COMERCIO INTERNACIONAL.
Fabian y Frank tuvieron la oportunidad de reunirse con el Director de Aduanas de República Dominicana, Sanz Lovaton, para discutir temas de actualidad.
Durante la reunión de COMALEP, Ian Saunders, el candidato de EE. UU. a Secretario General de la OMA, solicitó reunirse con los miembros del Grupo Consultivo Regional del Sector Privado (RPSCG), que brinda comentarios y recomendaciones a la OMA. CLADEC es miembro de la RPSCG y de la reunión participaron Frank Santeiro y Fabian Villarroel. La reunión duró aproximadamente 45 minutos y el Sr. Saunders declaró que, de ser elegido, tiene la intención de trabajar muy de cerca con el sector privado. El Sr. Saunders fue elegido Secretario General de la OMA en junio.

Como Secretario General, Saunders liderará el único organismo intergubernamental cuya misión es mejorar la eficacia de las administraciones de aduanas en todo el mundo”.
