Trade Committee Reorganization and Objectives
Under the leadership of Jose Acosta, UPS, CLADEC’s trade committee has established its new objectives for 2010/2011. First in the agenda for the committee will be to identify Intra-Latin America Trade Agreements and opportunities to bring to the attention of the CLADEC Board as well as the individual Companies and Members. The idea is to focus on tangible opportunities to facilitate trade in the short and medium term.
Colombia and Chile Leverage Mutual Cooperation
CLADEC Colombia and ATREX Chile are working closely together towards the sharing of information between the two Customs Administrations. Bernardo Escobar, Colombian Customs Head was invited by CLADEC Colombia and ATREX to visit Chile to show the facilities and the technology implemented by that country in the customs arena. The objective of the meeting is for the Colombian Customs Head to see the customs processes and get the knowledge to consider a similar implementation in Colombia.
Cassio Lopes Appointed to Lead President’s Council
Cassio Lopes, Operations Manager of FedEx and President of ABRAEC, Brazil, has been elected as the new Chairman of the President’s Council for CLADEC. Cassio brings extensive experience in the express delivery industry to the role. He currently serves as President of ABRAEC for the third time, and has been part of the association since 1995. He has been working for FedEx since 1989.
Board of Directors Meeting – Q3 2010
The meeting took place on September 3, 2010 at DHL Offices in Plantation, Florida. CLADEC’s participation in the XXXI Meeting of National Customs Directors of Latin America, Spain and Portugal (COMALEP) and the importance of strengthening relationships with the entity were topics addressed at the meeting. In addition, the World Customs Organization (WCO) request for sponsorship and how to work cooperatively with the organization was also addressed.
